DAIRY GOAT CONTESTS
Costume Contest – Mandatory: The goat is in costume and the exhibitor is encouraged to dress up as well, but is not required. Costumes must be comfortable and allow for movement of both the exhibitor and the goat. The sky is the limit, use your imagination and have fun! All ages compete together.
Poster Contest – Mandatory: All exhibitors must turn in an Educational poster for judging. Posters must be turned in during the designated time. Posters must be done on a 20”x30” foam board. The purpose of the poster is to help educate the public about goats. The required information must be on the back of the poster as follows: name, age and club name and county. The poster will be on display during the fair in the dairy goat project area of the barn. The poster must be removed during the scheduled release time. While parents are encouraged to help, posters where it is apparent that the work was done by parents or others will not be judged.
Demonstrations: Exhibitor’s can give a pre-fair talk or demonstration. This must be in the area of your Dairy Goat project animal. Exhibitors must submit a script from the talk, a grade sheet from your demonstration or a letter from the 4H leader or FFA Advisor stating the date and topic demonstrated. All must be signed by the 4H leader and submitted with your Dairy Goat Summary book. A demonstration is required in order to qualify Senior and Junior Over All Champions. If participating in this, a pre-fair talk /demonstration letter will be sent to you.
Milking Contest: This is a timed event in which the exhibitor will milk as much milk as fast as they can within the time limit. The milk will be measured to determine the winners. All ages will compete together.
Adult Milking Contest Milk Off: Parents, this is your chance to challenge a friend or your child to a milking contest! The winner gets bragging rights and a prize. The losers pay a $20 fee to be used for exhibitor premiums/prizes. This event is timed and the milk is weighed.
Mock Dairy Goat Showmanship Show for Non Goat Exhibitors: This show is open to any child, any age that would like to see what showing a goat is all about. Children under the age of 8 must have parental supervision. You must arrange ahead of time with an exhibitor to use their goat for the mock goat show. This is on a volunteer basis. A demonstration will be given on how to show a goat before the show starts.
