CLARIFICATION OF ETHICS REQUIREMENT
There has been a lot of confusion through the year about the ethics requirement. Here is the exact rule as approved by the board of directors.
Mandatory Youth Livestock Show Ethics and Animal Care Workshop: The Suwannee River Fair Association believes that every youth exhibitor should receive proper training and information for raising and showing a youth animal project. The Youth Livestock Show Ethics and Animal Care Workshop is designed to certify students to meet mandatory certification requirements. Certification is valid for a three (3) year period. This program has been endorsed by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services and the University of Florida, Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (IFAS). It is important that the exhibitors understand: The purpose of youth livestock projects; The importance of ethics in youth livestock projects; Proper animal handling and management,; The difference between animal welfare and animals rights; and Be prepared to be an ambassador for animal agriculture. The requirements are as follows:
- All students that were entered in the Suwannee River Fair from 2009 to 2012 must have completed the Ethics training to show an animal at the 2013 Suwannee River Fair.
- Youth that are exhibiting for the first time at the 2013 Suwannee River Fair will have a one (1) year grace period to complete the Ethics training.
- Workshops will be offered around the state. Check our website for updated dates and times.
As the rule above states that if this is the first time a youth is exhibiting, they have one year grace. In other words, they will not need to have the training.
If they entered the fair in 2009, 2010, 2011 or 2012 - they are required to have the training as per the rule shown above.
We ask that exhibitors bring their letter (if they have it) and write in their certification number on their record books.

hog tag #
MISSING HOG TAG #
There are three hog tag id# that are unaccounted for at this time.
302
307
404
It is possible that these tags were not used. However, if they were used, it means that the entry form did not make it to me and the exhibitor is not entered in the fair.
Please check with all exhibitors and make sure they do not have any of these #s.
If they do, have them contact me immediately.
Thank you!
